Thomas Moe Photography by Miamoto Thomas Moe Photography by Miamoto
THOMAS MOE PHOTOGRAPHY
__________________________

A logo for Thomas Moe, a super-cool photographer. He was looking for "something simple, original, stylish and cozy." Going with the idea of a camera iris, meshing it with the shape of an asterisk, and pairing it with a stylish, friendly logotype, here's the result. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You can check out Thomas' work at www.thomasmoe.com or visit his dA page, where he's known as =maao. And I'll let you agree with me that his stuff is awesome.

Clichéd, but good nonetheless. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this design is better than the ones in the links you've posted.

Excellent work Miamoto.

Just saying, I've seen this concept used for photographer logos to the point that it's now generic. And btw, a camera doesn't have an iris, it's called an aperture.

It begs the question, "What logomark accurately describes a photographer?" But if that can't be answered by anyone without another begged question, then... the logotype makes all the difference.

And uh, the structure in a camera that limits light is in fact called an iris diaphragm, commonly referred to as an iris. The aperture is the opening, the hole in the middle of the iris.

:) I personally think it's very hard to design a logomark for a photographer. Basically a tightrope walk between commonly-used symbols and generic shapes. A lot of people (like yourself) stick with just a logotype, which I did for another photographer here: [link] . Having the logotype speak for itself is not a bad decision.

Guess it will not be your cards fault if you are not hired :D
My first thought was: "tmp? hm temporary! oh, wait..." because the directory for the temporary files in linux is /tmp ;) I don't know how many other people will have that as a first thought

It's a modified form of a font I've made myself. I'm still messing around with it, and once I'm happy with it I'll release it to the public.

Very nice presentation of the logo, that impresses me the most.

The iris, how it's cut on the back edge, i've seen something like this before at an exhibition but it was rounded off, i prefer this flat cut, it looks stronger.

I think the 'tmp' part is the best part though, I've seen countless logos with an iris on but the logo text is never usually that good, yours flows together and it makes it look purpose built and even more solid.

I normally cringe at iris logos for photographers, but this one is one of the good ones, well done :)

Heh, yeah... it wasn't until after I completed the logo that I noticed just how many iris logos there are for photographers. Yet what other logomark accurately describes a photographer? Uhm... I decided to stay with the iris, and make a good logotype to flow with it. Thanks :P

Pretty much: [link] To make it black and everything you'll have to desaturate it and mess with the brightness/contrast.

[link] , although to make it look black and everything you'll have to desaturate it and mess with the brightness/contrast. :slow: My edited version is only as big as that image above, so it wouldn't be of use to most people.
